For those who have decided to become a member of the Catholic Church, the next step will be a transition into the second phase of the RCIA, called the Catechumenate. The transition is marked by an Entrance Rite, celebrated during one of the weekend liturgies.
The Catechumenate process is much more structured than the Inquiry phase and we do ask for a serious commitment to be at as many of the Catechumenate sessions as possible. There is not a preset curriculum for the Catechumenate. The RCIA team will schedule topics based on the needs of the members of the Catechumenate. During the Catechumenate, you will be expected to attend liturgy once each weekend. The liturgy time will be specified by the RCIA team and will rotate from week to week so that all three liturgies will be attended.
During the liturgy, after the Liturgy of the Word, participants in the Catechumenate will be 'sent forth' ('dismissed') to the Parish Center to discuss the weekend's readings while the rest of the parish prepares for and celebrates the Eucharist (Communion). After the liturgy, spouses, sponsors and the rest of the RCIA team will join those in the parish center for a few minutes of snacks and a Catechumenate session that should last for about 60 minutes.
