Many years ago the great clipper ships sailed the West Indies in search of spices, riches, and fruits. When the ships returned to port, the captain would place a pineapple on a fence post to let the community know that he and his crew had returned.
Because the pineapple was so prized, if you were served or given a pineapple you knew you were considered a special friend, someone very special indeed. Over time the pineapple became a symbol of Southern hospitality. For this reason, Holy Infant uses a pineapple as its emblem of hospitality.
