We encourage all parents to be involved in TYM activities. Here are general ideas for getting involved and a list of annual activities:
Catechist / Assistant for Older Adolescents – TYM Adult Leadership Team
The TYM catechist / assistant serves on the Gathering Team for one or more of the HI-life Gatherings and attends the preparation meeting to prepare for teaching / facilitating / assisting at the Gathering. The TYM catechist also helps prepare and lead activities for high school youth at one or more Sunday TYM sessions.
Organize and lead service projects
We are hopeful that parishioners are inspired to act on what they learn in the HI-life Gatherings by participating in follow-up service activities. The person in this leadership role is responsible for handling the details of the service activity (arrange dates/times, coordinate with local service agencies, advertise to the parish through bulletin announcements and flyers, be the main contact person for the service activity).
Participate as a member of a TYM Retreat Team
Retreats are offered to provide more time to reflect on and discuss a certain theme as well as to build and strengthen friendships within the community. As a member of a Retreat Team, a person assists in the planning and conducting of the retreat. Responsibilities could vary according to skills and interests of the Retreat Team. Typical tasks include logistics for the retreat (facility rental, food, registration, etc.), facilitating small group discussions, and/or presenting on a topic.
Chaperone youth activities
Chaperones are needed for youth activities both at Holy Infant and at off-site locations. Typical duties of chaperones include ensuring the safety of the youth and encouraging appropriate behavior. Chaperones must be members of the parish for at least 6 months, at least 23 years of age, and must complete the Diocese of Raleigh Application for Volunteers form (criminal background check). Please submit completed forms to the Holy Infant parish office.
